Description
1936 marked the introduction of the new overhead valve EL 61 cubic inch knucklehead.
The bike on offer is one of the highly collectible first-year EL examples. Equipped with a 40 hp, 61 cu. in. V-Twin engine and four-speed transmission. Harley-Davidson introduced its new EL model in 1936, and it was nicknamed the knucklehead for the bumps on the cylinder heads. The OHV engine development had been delayed since 1934 by the Depression, but after a few initial teething troubles were resolved, it would remain a steadfast performer in the H-D lineup. It was later bumped up to 74 cubic inches in 1941 and production lasted until 1947. It was expertly refinished in handsome Sherwood Green with Silver contrasts. Restored with no-expenses-spared and using NOS parts, even the tires,. This beautiful early Knucklehead would be a welcome addition to any discerning collector.
