History of the Citroën 2CV: everyone's friend (copyright CQS)
No car has as many nicknames as the 2CV: “Deuche”, “the little goat”, “the Ami6”... This popular little car has left its mark on several generations and has even made its way into dictionaries, under its original name: two horses. These nicknames bear witness to the universal affection it arouses. Almost everyone knows someone who has owned one or driven one with pleasure.
Presented for the first time at the Paris Motor Show on October 7, 1948, the 2CV was initially an object of mockery. Yet only one Swiss magazine predicted a bright future for this car... and they were right?! By 1950, waiting times for a 2CV were six years.
A design based on in-depth market research
Its modest appearance might suggest that it was designed on a whim, but in reality, the 2CV was the result of in-depth market research combined with a perfect understanding of customer needs. It had to be affordable for farmers or workers, be able to carry a 50-litre barrel of wine and cross a field without breaking a single egg it was carrying. The roof, which was high enough, also had to allow the driver to keep his hat on in church.
A timeless icon
Despite its hesitant beginnings, the 2CV quickly became a success. More than just a utility vehicle, it evolved to embody a true art of living. Result: between 1948 and the end of its production in 1990, more than 4 million 2CVs were manufactured, some of which were in Belgium and Portugal. Its simplicity of construction also inspired many variations such as the Méhari, the Vans or kit cars such as the Burton or the Lomax.
The Citroën 2CV 6 James Bond 007 – A cinema legend!
This special 2CV 6 James Bond from 1980 is a unique piece for collectors.
Inspired by the film “For Your Eyes Only” (1981), where Roger Moore plays James Bond, this 2CV is famous for a spectacular and unforgettable chase.
To mark the occasion, Citroën produced a limited series of 500 models for the French market, decorated with fake pistol bullets, in homage to this memorable scene.
Key Features:
Engine: 602cc air-cooled, providing a reliable and charming driving experience.
Original colour: Mimosa Yellow.
Why is this 2CV special?
It represents the perfect fusion of French simplicity and James Bond’s adventurous elegance.
Restored to new condition, it is ready to conquer the roads again, while being a showpiece for collectors and 007 fans.
